Strolling Down Memory Lane ...

A few days ago, Megan at Mackey Madness tagged me in a post.  I was asked to write 7 facts about my childhood.  I really enjoyed reading about Megan's childhood and looking at the pictures she shared, that I knew I'd love to take part and share my childhood with her and all of you.

1.  I was born on July 29, 1984, one day after my mom's baby shower.  My mom felt some pain without knowing they were contractions.  She headed to the hospital and once she arrived she was only in labor for 45 minutes. (Yes, 45 minutes!  I hope I am that lucky when I have kids!)  I weighed 5 lbs. 6 oz. and was nearly one month early.  Growing up, my mom always told me that I was ready to take on the world because I flew right out.

2.  My younger sister Danielle and I are 3 years apart.  I was born at 4:20 in the afternoon and her birthday is April 20th (4.20).  We were close when we were younger, but not so much as we got older. I am happy to say that we are the best of friends now.
3.  When I was four, I dressed up as a grape and won an over-the-summer costume contest!  The following summer, I dressed up as Dolly Parton and placed in the top 5.  {What can I say, my family sure knows how to create costumes using balloons ;) ... oh, and I'm still searching trying to find a picture!}
4.  Growing up in the 80's, my mom loved to dress me up.  In the above pictures, I'm rocking my "costume jewelry" and it seems a little attitude {in the left picture HAHA}.
5.  My grandma on my dad's side passed away suddenly when I was 8.  She was a very big part of my life.  I missed her a lot growing up and always wished she was there for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions.  She loved kids and was President of the Parent-Teacher Association for many years.  Everyone always tells me how much I resemble her and how proud she'd be of me and my teacher career.  I know she's looking down on me and will always be my angel in heaven.
6.  I always had dogs in my house growing up.  I couldn't imagine living without them.  Rocket, the cocker spaniel, was a gift for my 8th birthday.  {This doesn't have to do with my childhood but is a random fact about me ... I have a small tattoo on my inner ankle of a paw print, which to me, symbolizes and honors the dogs that I loved and lost.}  I should also add that I was bit in the face by an akita when I was 7.  I had 15 stitches near my mouth and on my jaw line.  Luckily, I do not have any really visible scars and I did not develop a fear of dogs after that experience.
7.  I traveled a lot growing up.  I was very fortunate that my parents took my sister and I on many vacations (Disney, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Mexico).  The above pictures were taken in Jamaica.  My parents even surprised us and we rode in a limo to the airport!

Those were just a few facts about my childhood and I hope that you enjoyed learning a little bit more about me.  I'm supposed to tag a few people to participate but I'm going to leave that up to you.  If you'd like to write about your childhood, go for it! I'd love to read and learn more about all of you!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! xo
