Hello lovelies! I wanted to take some time to talk about something that is very near and dear to my heart. As a Special Education teacher, I work with students with special needs every day. Through my education and teaching experiences thus far, I have always had a special passion for working with students with autism. {In this current school year, I do not have any students who are currently classified with autism.} Aside from working in Special Education, someone I am very close to and consider a brother to me has autism.
Autism is a complex developmental disability that affects a person's ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism affects 1 in 110 births in the United States with 1 in 70 boys and has no specific cause. These facts astonish me! ... and that is why I think it is important to help raise awareness.

April is National Autism Awareness Month
.
On the evenings of April 1st and April 2nd, prominent buildings across North America and the world — including the Empire State Building in New York City and the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada — will turn their lights blue to raise awareness for autism and to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day on Saturday, April 2.We're aiming to light the world blue all throughout April -- city by city, town by town -- by taking action to raise autism awareness in our communities.
