The Lucky One

Hello lovelies!  I've been on such a reading kick lately!  Aside from reading the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy (which I blogged about here and here),  I also read The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks.  The Lucky One just happens to be hitting theaters on April 20th too!

The Lucky One

Synopsis:  When U.S. Marine Logan Thibault finds a photograph of a smiling young woman half-buried in the dirt during his third tour of duty in Iraq, his first instinct is to toss it aside. Instead, he brings it back to the base for someone to claim, but when no one does, he finds himself always carrying the photo in his pocket. Soon Thibault experiences a sudden streak of luck—winning poker games and even surviving deadly combat that kills two of his closest buddies. Only his best friend, Victor, seems to have an explanation for his good fortune: the photograph—his lucky charm.

Back home in Colorado, Thibault can’t seem to get the photo—and the woman in it—out of his mind. Believing that she somehow holds the key to his destiny, he sets out on a journey across the country to find her, never expecting the strong but vulnerable woman he encounters in Hampton, North Carolina—Elizabeth, a divorced mother with a young son—to be the girl he’s been waiting his whole life to meet. Caught off guard by the attraction he feels, Thibault keeps the story of the photo, and his luck, a secret. As he and Elizabeth embark upon a passionate and all-consuming love affair, the secret he is keeping will soon threaten to tear them apart—destroying not only their love, but also their lives.

Filled with tender romance and terrific suspense, The Lucky One is Nicholas Sparks at his best—an unforgettable story about the surprising paths our lives often take and the power of fate to guide us to true and everlasting love.  {via Good Reads}

Review:   When I saw the trailer for The Lucky One, I knew I had to read the book before the movie came out.  I read The Lucky One in a 24-hour period, which says a lot about how I felt about it.  I've always been the type of reader that once I'm hooked I don't stop until I'm done.  I'll admit it was a slow start for me though.  I didn't get fully hooked in to about Chapter 9.   And to be honest, I think it took me a little longer to get into it was because the book is told in third-person omniscient point-of-view.  You hear the story from three different people's point-of-view, which is not by any means as confusing as it may sound, it just takes a little bit of time to build up each character's background.  But as always,  Nicholas Sparks is an excellent storyteller as he brings his readers into the novel with his descriptive writing and attention to detail.  The story is very well-developed and paced that I was anxious to turn the pages to see what would happen next.  And while some parts seemed predictable {or maybe since I watched the movie trailer a billion times}, there were still parts that were not expected.  Overall, it was a GREAT READ.  I've always been a fan of Nicholas Sparks and The Lucky One is now one of my favorite books of his, next to The Notebook.

Did you read The Lucky One?  What did you think?
Anyone plan on seeing the movie?  I am! ;)

I have never read Nicholas Sparks OR seen a movie based on his books, except seeing The Notebook (easily one of my fave movies)!

Loved the book! I can't wait to see the movie! Have you read The Best of Me? Nicholas Sparks just released that one probably about 9 months or so ago. I read it in two days-it was different than his other books but definitely good! Worth a read for sure!

PS Less than a month until I see Jason and Luke in concert-thought you'd appreciate that! This will be my 11th Luke concert. I kind of like him. ;)

I read this one last year can't wait to see the movie! However... I am disappointed that they chose Zac Efron. He's not who I pictured in that role. I know, I know, I'm prob the only one that isn't obessed with him... oh well, still super psyched to go see it!
